What to expect
Once you have made an enquiry, I will respond as quickly as possible to arrange an initial discussion on how to proceed further. This will hopefully give us an opportunity to find out how I will be able to help you.
All sessions will last fifty minutes. The number of the sessions will depend on an individual or couple and their presenting sexual and/or relationship difficulties. I will endeavour to conduct regular reviews to establish how we are doing in the sessions, discuss progress and potential number of the sessions that may be needed to work through the issues you would like to address. I see clients on a weekly basis, however, I am aware this may not always be possible and I can also agree to fortnightly sessions.
In the initial assessment session, I will introduce a written agreement outlining our mutual rights and responsibilities. These include issues regarding professional standards, confidentiality, payment of fees, data protection, safeguarding, the cancellation policy as well as the use of electronic means (applicable for online therapy) and the eventual ending of therapy.
During the assessment, I will be enquiring about your personal history, including your sexual history. If appropriate, I will create a treatment plan which we can review regularly to determine our therapeutic progress. I will also discuss your understanding of the difficulties you have been experiencing and establish whether it may be necessary to refer to your GP or a specialist service such as a urologist or a gynaecologist.
Should it be necessary, I may also suggest asking your partner to participate in the therapy.
Depending on your presenting problem, I will regularly recommend self-help tools and techniques as well as practical exercises to be carried out at home. This is designed to support your therapeutic progress and to help you achieve your specific goals.
